Comments and messages
Read and answer Instagram and Facebook comments and messages from the inbox.
The Inbox brings together the comments and direct messages of a brand's accounts. You read and answer them here, and replies go out as the account.
Which networks come in
- Comments: Instagram, Facebook and Threads (replies to your threads), on posts from the last 30 days. Comments on Stories aren't included.
- Messages: Instagram direct messages and your Facebook Page's Messenger chats.
TikTok doesn't offer comments or messages to apps, and X charges for every read, so their comments and messages don't show here. Bluesky's don't either.
Reply to a comment
- Open Inbox in the side bar. You start on Comments.
- Each conversation shows the post, the comment and its replies. Press Reply under a reply to address that person with their @.
- Type in the box at the bottom and press Reply, or use ⌘ + Enter (Ctrl + Enter on Windows).
On Instagram, typing @ suggests names from the conversation and people who have already commented or messaged you.
Reply to a message
- Switch to the Messages tab and pick a conversation.
- Type and press Send.
Instagram and Facebook only let other apps reply within 24 hours of the person's last message. After that, Coolposts tells you so and gives you a link to answer in the network's own app. The same goes for reels, voice notes and stickers, which the networks don't share with other apps.
Needs reply and Mark as done
The Needs reply filter shows only what's waiting for an answer; All shows everything. When you reply, the conversation counts as done. If it needs no answer, press Mark as done; to bring it back, find it under All and press Reopen. A comment you answer in the Instagram or Facebook app counts as done too.
New items and Check now
- Coolposts looks for new comments and messages every few minutes, and every minute while the inbox is open.
- Press Check now to look for them right away.
- A blue dot marks unread comments and conversations. In the side bar, Inbox shows how many there are for the current brand, and other brands with news get a dot.
If an account can't be read, you'll see a yellow notice with the reason. Reconnecting it usually fixes it: see Connect your social accounts.
